Airports and Ground Transportation
Information below updated October 2019
Ronald Reagan Washington International Airport (DCA)
National Airport is approximately 2.5 miles from the Doubletree Hotel. It is easily accessible by taking the free hotel shuttle or other ground transportation options, such as taxi or car-share.
It also is a short two-stop Metro (subway) ride via the Yellow Line in the direction of Greenbelt or the Blue Line in the direction of Largo Town Center to the Pentagon City Metro station. The hotel shuttle picks up outside the station. Cost for the Metro trip would be between $3 and $5 total depending on the time of day.
Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
Dulles Airport is approximately 26 miles from the Doubletree Hotel. There is no hotel shuttle from Dulles. IAD taxis and car-share can cost upwards of $50 from Dulles Airport. Two of the least-expensive modes of transportation from Dulles are the Super Shuttle (a cost between $30 and $40) and bus service to the Metro.
To take the bus to the Metro, buy a ticket (one-way or round-trip) at the Silver Line Express ticket counter located at Arrivals Door #4 in the Main Terminal. You will also board the coach outside this door. Buses depart every 15 to 20 minutes for Wiehle-Reston East Metro station. From there, take the Silver Line line train bound for Largo Town Center station and transfer trains at L’Enfant Plaza station. Board the Yellow line train in the direction of Huntington and get off at Pentagon City station. You can catch the hotel shuttle outside the station. Total cost for travel via coach and Metro would be between $15 and $20.
A further alternative is to board the limited-stop WMATA (Metro) 5A bus at bus bay 2E and ride to the L’Enfant Plaza Metro station. As with above, board the Yellow line train in the direction of Huntington, get off at Pentagon City Metro station, and catch the hotel shuttle. Cost: between $10 and $15.
Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport (BWI)
BWI Airport is approximately 36 miles from the Doubletree Hotel. There is no hotel shuttle.
One of the least-expensive ways to travel from BWI Airport is to take the MARC train run by the Maryland Transit Administration. You can take the free shuttle to the BWI Rail Station, and then board the MARC train to Union Station. From there, take the Metro Red Line bound for Shady Grove, and then transfer trains at Gallery Place-Chinatown to a Yellow Line train bound to Huntington. Exit at the Pentagon City Metro Station, and then take the free hotel shuttle. Total cost for this trip would be about $15.
An alternative is to board the WMATA (Metro) B30 bus outside of Door #1 on the ground floor of BWI bound for Greenbelt Metro Station. This half-hour bus ride (which is weekday-only and requires exact change) will allow you to board the Yellow Line train in the direction of Huntington. Exit the Yellow Line train at Pentagon City and take the free shuttle to the hotel. Total cost for this trip would be between $10 and $15 depending on the time of day.
Taxis and car-share are also available but not recommended for this long trip.
Other Ground Transportation Options
Union Station in downtown Washington, DC is the closest Amtrak station to the Doubletree Hotel. There are a few options for ground transportation from Union Station. Taxis and car-share are available at the front entrance of Union Station. Metro access is also available on the lower level of Union Station; take the Metro Red Line bound for Shady Grove, and then transfer trains at Gallery Place-Chinatown to the Yellow Line in the direction of Huntington. Exit at the Pentagon City Metro Station, and then take the free hotel shuttle.
